Dynamic content insertion sounds complicated.

It’s one of those podcasting terms that gets thrown around a lot, usually alongside conversations about ads, large podcast networks and enterprise publishing teams. As a result, many independent podcasters assume that dynamic content simply isn’t built for them. And that’s why we built AMIE.

Captivate’s Audio Monetization & Integration Engine (AMIE) is built for both smaller independent podcasters whilst providing larger, advertising-centric podcasters, networks and brands the enterprise-level tools they need to run sophisticated content and advertising campaigns.

AMIE allows for much more than dynamic ads. We designed it with one mission in mind: to help podcasters to grow their audience, their influence and their brand.

Dynamic Content Isn’t Just About Advertising

When most people think about dynamic insertion, they think about ads. Sure, our new ad marketplace runs on AMIE, it’s the backbone of the entire system. But that’s only one part of the story. At its heart, AMIE is a content delivery engine.

It allows you to insert, update, replace and manage audio content across your podcast catalogue without having to re-upload or edit individual episodes.

That content could be:

  • Sponsor messages
  • Trailer swaps
  • Podcast promos
  • Event announcements
  • Membership promotions
  • Product launches
  • Seasonal campaigns
  • Calls to action

The goal is to make your back catalogue work harder for your podcast. Every episode you’ve ever published becomes an opportunity to promote something relevant to your listeners today.

Introducing AMIE Campaign Management

The newest addition to AMIE is Campaign Management, which gives podcasters complete control over how dynamic content is delivered throughout their catalogue.

Whether you’re running an advertising campaign, promoting your own show, launching a new product or coordinating a trailer swap, Campaign Management allows you to create campaigns that run exactly when and where you need them.

You can choose to run a campaign:

  • For a specific period of time
  • Until a defined impression target is reached
  • In a specific geographic location
  • Across your entire catalogue
  • Within selected episodes
  • In specific insertion points

This means you’re no longer manually adding and removing content as campaigns begin and end, AMIE handles that automatically.

If a sponsor purchases 50,000 impressions, your campaign stops when that threshold is reached. Promoting a live event? The campaign stops running once the event date has passed.

Set it up once and let AMIE do the heavy lifting.

Deliver Different Content To Different Audiences

Not every listener needs to hear the same message. With Campaign Management, AMIE allows you to serve different content to listeners in different regions.

A listener in the UK can hear one campaign. One in the United States can hear another. Someone elsewhere can hear something entirely different. For advertisers, this creates more relevant campaigns, for podcasters more opportunities to monetize and promote effectively, and for listeners simply a better experience.

Your Back Catalogue Should Never Stand Still

One of podcasting’s biggest strengths is the longevity of content. Episodes regularly continue attracting listeners for months or years after publication.

The challenge is that traditional podcast episodes are static: a promotion recorded eighteen months ago is still there, an expired offer remains untouched. An old call to action continues running long after it stops being useful.

By using dynamic content insertion, your catalogue can evolve alongside your podcast. Add new campaigns, remove old ones and update your back catalogue to reflect your current goals. All of that, without having to go back and update the RSS feed.

Meet the Ad Painter

Of course, we understand that not every podcast starts with dynamic insertion in place – many creators already have sponsorships, promotions and announcements baked directly into older episodes.

That’s where the Ad Painter comes in. It allows you to identify existing content within an episode and replace it with something new. You literally paint over the old waveform and paste in your new content.

Pro level tools for every podcaster, as always

“When conceptualising AMIE, we realised that dynamic content tools had become associated almost exclusively with large publishers, networks and brands,” says Mark Asquith, CEO of Captivate.

“The reality is that independent podcasters can benefit just as much, if not more. Whether you’re running sponsorship campaigns, promoting your own products, swapping trailers with other creators or simply keeping your catalogue up to date, AMIE gives you the flexibility to do it all from one place.”

Captivate CTO Kieran McKeefery adds:

“We wanted to build something that gives podcasters genuine control over their content. Campaign Management allows creators to run sophisticated campaigns based on timeframes, impression targets and listener location, whilst keeping everything simple to manage day-to-day.”
